Abstract
This study examines the social and territorial feasibility of the albergo diffuso lodging model in San Francisco de Milagro, Ecuador, as a strategy for sustainable tourism and heritage valorization. A quantitative, descriptive, non-experimental approach was applied through structured surveys with local residents to explore perceptions of tourism, cultural identity, and the use of heritage buildings. Findings indicate strong community acceptance of sustainable tourism, interest in cultural experiences, and willingness to engage in initiatives such as lodging in historic properties and the touristic use of rural farms. Documentary and regulatory review highlights favorable conditions for adapting the albergo diffuso to a distributed hospitality framework, integrating heritage buildings, farms with symbolic value, and coherent tourism services. The model is considered feasible in attitudinal, functional, and regulatory terms, though effective implementation will require strengthening community participation, local capacities, and inter-institutional management mechanisms.
